The philosophical foundation for teaching integrated arts in the primary school is based on the belief that aesthetic and creative education is the entitlement of every child and that the nature and quality of the provision determines the distinctiveness of cultural life and academic performance in school. As a model for new millenium the integrated arts mode accords dance, music and drama central role in primary education and demonstrates that when children experience the arts from an integrated approach their learning in humanities, science, literacy and numeracy is complemented and enriched.

Children have natural enthusiasm for arts and this can be nurtured from first day of school so that their motivation and commitment is maintained throughout their primary years of school. Integrated arts like music and dance can enhance the child’s creative ability.

There are schools that teach exclusively only art forms like dance or music. Indian classical dance refers to Natya, the sacred Hindu musical theatre styles. Its theory traced back to the Natya Shastra of Bharata Muni (400 BC). The Sangeetha Nataka Academy Currently confers classical status on eight forms they are:

Bharatanatyam
Kathak
Kathakali
Kuchipudi
Manipuri
Mohiniaattam
Odissi
Sattriya

There are many schools for dance and music in India which nurtures and develops the art form and encourages one to go ahead to master that art form. There are many children from abroad enroll themselves into dance schools and make that as there main subject and learn the rich culture. Many schools have music and dance as a subject for children not only to enjoy but to learn the various aspects of it. Schools also have trained teachers to teach the specific art form.
