Parents need to understand entirely the importance of a good education. It is important for parents to encourage their children to do well in school. Instilling good attitudes about school work in children is the role of the parents in developing their academic skills.

Organization, time management, prioritization, concentration, and motivation are the key skills for academic success.

Organization:
Children need to be organized to learn to succeed in school. For many children lack of organization is what affects them in their academics rather than lack of intellectual ability.

Following are the tips the children need to follow to get organized:

•    Make a checklist of the things the children need to bring to and from the school everyday.
•    Find out how your child keeps track of his homework and how he organizes his notebooks and create a method to help him out.
•    Shop along with your child for the tools that will help him in keeping his things organized like binders, folders, assignment books.

Time Management:
Time management is a very important skill to practice to succeed academically. Find below some tips to help children manage time effectively:

•    Track the assignments on a monthly calendar.
•    Help your child record how much time he spends on doing his homework in a week so that he can divide his time accordingly.
•    Work out schedules for your child and help him to stick with it.
•    If evenings are not enough then help him to find time in the mornings or weekends.

Prioritization:
Children need to prioritize their work to handle assignments and other tasks in schools. Tips to help children prioritize their work in school are given as below:

•    Tell the child to think of all the things he need to do.
•    Then ask him to number them according to the importance of each task. Know your child’s priorities about each task.
•    Check which tasks he is giving number 1 priority. Help him to change the numbers for better prioritizing.
•    Check the list weekly on how he is prioritizing his new tasks.

Concentration:
A child needs an atmosphere that is free from distractions or interruptions for doing his school work.

Turn off television, internet or games while your child works on the computer. Keep younger siblings away from him to avoid distractions. For projects, the child needs ample space for working.

Motivation:
Parents need to motivate their child for helping them in achieving academic success.

•    Encourage your child to apply to everyday life what he learns at school.
•    Let your child decide his study time, organizing system and school project topics.
•    Regularly ask your child what he is learning at school.
•    Congratulate your child on his success, encourage him and celebrate his success. Give rewards.
